Area Teams on the Road for State High School Semifinals

Three Athens area teams will play state semifinal games Friday night and all three will be on the road.

In the Class A Private classification, number one ranked Prince Avenue will travel to Peachtree Corners to take on fifth ranked Wesleyan. The Wolverines advanced to the semifinals last week with a 38-0 win over five time defending state champion Eagles Landing Christian Academy. Prince Avenue also boasts Georgia signee Brock Vandagriff at quarterback. He threw for 337 yards in a 52-26 win over Wesleyan back on October 2nd.

In the AAA ranks, number 2 Oconee County heads to Norcross for a battle with GAC. The undefeated Warriors are looking for a second straight trip to the state championship game. GAC is also undefeated and is making its seventh trip to the semifinals in the past nine seasons. This will be the first ever meeting between Oconee County and GAC.

Number two Jefferson has the longest trip of the evening as the Dragons venture to Savannah to take on 4th ranked Benedictine. Jefferson is 11-0 on the year while Benedictine is 9-2. Both teams are in the semifinals for the first time since 2016.

The winner’s tonight advance to the state championship with all games taking place Dec 28-30 at Center Parc Stadium in Atlanta.
