Some HearMuffs children’s headphones have been recalled because the included batteries could rupture.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with Hearing Lab Technology/Lucid Audio, is recalling four models of its powered HearMuffs. The recall is limited to only some powered HearMuffs that include two AAA alkaline batteries.
Vinnic brand AAA alkaline batteries included with the affected HearMuffs can rupture, posing hearing, projectile or burn injury, according to the CPSC.
The headphones were sold from January 2018 to December 2021 at Sam’s Club, Kroger and other stores nationwide; and online at samsclub.com and kroger.com.
The following models are affected by the recall:
- LA-infant-AM-WH
- LA-infant-ASM-WH
- LA-infant-ASM-WHPlus
- LA-kids-AM-WH
The models were sold in multiple colors and had a multimode power button to switch from off, active or soothe mode.
Consumers with these headphones are asked to stop using the HearMuffs and contact the company to receive two free replacement batteries.
There have been 19 reports of battery ruptures, but there have been no injuries.
