HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. — A 3-year-old Kentucky girl has died after she was found unresponsive in a hot car last weekend, authorities said.
According to WHOP, Hopkinsville police said the girl's mother realized that her daughter was missing Saturday and started searching for her. The woman eventually found the unresponsive toddler inside the family's car, the radio station reported.
Emergency responders rushed the child to a nearby hospital, where she died, WHOP reported. Police, who believe the child let herself into the vehicle, have not filed any charges in the case.
Nine children in the United States have died in hot vehicles in 2020, according to the Courier-Journal.
