JetBlue is flying into the future after becoming the first airline to accept Venmo as payment for booking flights.

The company announced on Tuesday that you will have the option to use Venmo to pay for your flights when booking through the airline’s main website. The feature hasn’t hit the app yet, but will in the coming months, CBS News reported.

By using Venmo consumers can use whatever they have linked to the online payment system such as a bank account, debit card or credit card. They can also use their Venmo balance to pay for a flight.

“Adding Venmo offers a seamless payment option for customers who enjoy the ease and convenience of the Venmo platform,” the company said in a news release.

JetBlue has been updating its services recently, including adding features to its app like a boarding countdown and gate information, CNN reported.

It is also bringing back nonstop flights between Pittsburgh and New York City after cutting several unprofitable routes last year.

To save money the airline also stopped serving hot meals on transatlantic flights for those flying economy, CBS News reported.

JetBlue is not the first airline to accept digital payments from similar services. American, Delta, Southwest and United all accept payments from PayPal, CNN reported.

Venmo is owned by PayPal.

JetBlue lost $173 million in the first three-quarters of 2024, CNN reported after two previous years of losses. It also tried to buy Spirit Airlines but a federal court blocked that deal.
