TAMPA, Fla. — Tampa Police Department are searching for an armed robber who allegedly shot and killed a dog Friday evening.

According to a news release from the Tampa Police Department, just before 7 p.m. on Friday near West Powhatan and North Armenia avenues, a man was walking his two dachshund dogs when an armed man allegedly came up to him, pointed a gun and demanded money. Both of the dogs became “agitated” and were moving near the suspect when he allegedly shot at them multiple times, hitting one of the dogs.

According to WFLA, the victim picked up both of his dogs and ran. The suspect continued to chase them and fire his gun. Police said the victim eventually got away and took his dogs to an emergency veterinarian. The dog who was shot died at the veterinarian’s office from his injuries.

TPD said they are continuing to look for the suspect. He is described as a thin Black man, about 6 feet, 4 inches tall. He was wearing a black hoodie, gray sweatpants and was armed with a handgun. TPD said he was last seen running eastbound on West Powhatan Avenue.
