Actor Kevin Spacey facing 7 more sex charges in UK

LONDON — Academy Award-winning actor Kevin Spacey is facing seven more sexual offenses, authorities in the United Kingdom said on Wednesday.

According to a news release from the Crown Prosecution Service, the new charges authorized by Spacey, 63, includes three counts of indecent assault, three counts of sexual assault and one count of causing a person to engage in sexual activity without consent.

The prosecuting authority approved the charges following “a review of the evidence gathered by the Metropolitan Police in its investigation,″ Rosemary Ainslie, head of the CPS Special Crime Division, said in the release.

There are now 12 charges pending against the “House of Cards” star in the UK, according to The Associated Press.

Spacey is expected to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court in London on Dec. 16, CNN reported.

The charges stem from a man who alleged that Spacey assaulted him between 2001 and 2004, according to The New York Times.

In July, Spacey appeared in court at the Old Bailey to deny five allegations relating to three men, who are now in their 30s and 40s, the BBC reported. That trial is due to begin in June 2023. The charges stem from the claims the men made when Spacey lived in London and served as the artistic director of the Old Vic theater, according to Variety.

A spokesperson for the Crown Prosecution Service told the Times by telephone that details of the new charges would be sent to Spacey via mail. She added that the actor would be required to appear in a London courtroom to respond to them.

Last month, a jury in New York City found that Spacey did not molest Anthony Rapp, who accused him of sexual misconduct when he was 14 years old.

In 2017, Rapp, 51, had accused Spacey of sexual misconduct toward him in 1986, when Rapp was a teen and Spacey was 26. Rapp first made the claims in a 2017 BuzzFeed article, Variety reported, and sued the actor for $40 million.

In 2019, Spacey appeared in a Massachusetts court on a charge of indecent assault and battery. He was accused of groping an 18-year-old busser at the Nantucket bar on July 7, 2016. According to the New York Times, prosecutors dropped the case when his accuser refused to testify.

Spacey’s representatives did not immediately respond to a request for comment about the new charges, the Times reported.

Spacey won Oscars for his performances in “The Usual Suspects” and “American Beauty.”
