The Clarke County School District is hosting what it is calling a Virtual Town Hall on its plans for the new school year: it’s set to start at 5:30 on the School District’s YouTube channel. Clarke County schools that were set to open this week will instead open with on-line instruction only, with the first day of virtual classes set for September 8.
School bells ring in and around Watkinsville this morning: today is the first day of a new school year in Oconee County. Friday is the first day of classes in city schools in Commerce and for students and teachers in schools in Franklin County.
Students in the state’s largest school system will be starting the school year virtually, but that will not last for long. Gwinnett County schools will start on August 12, one week from today. Two weeks later, Gwinnett will begin a phase-in of in-person schooling. The first grades of each school level will be the first to return, with preliminary plans for in-person instruction in all grades in Gwinnett County beginning on September 9.
