UPDATE: Athens shooting victim identified

Athens-Clarke County Police investigate a homicide: a man was killed in a Tuesday afternoon shooting in the parking lot of a convenience store on North Avenue in Athens. Victim Mark Howard was 52 years old. Police have identified a person of interest in the case.

Five suspects from South Carolina have been arrested, accused of stealing catalytic converters from cars in Habersham, Hart, and Franklin counties.

Three suspects—men from Oakwood and Gainesville—are arrested after four-month investigation in Hall County, accused in a string of automobile break-ins dating back to April. The Georgia Supreme Court has upheld the murder conviction of a man serving a life sentence for a 2017 murder in Gainesville: Marquis Studivant was found guilty in the murder of Dennis Gayton, who was shot and killed in what police in Gainesville say was a drug deal gone bad.

The Georgia State Patrol is investigating an accident involving a Hall County School bus: a 16 year-old girl driving a car was injured in the accident that happened near Chestatee High School, suffering cuts and bruises to her face. There were five people on the bus. State Troopers say none of them were injured.

The Lumpkin County Sheriff’s Office says more details will be forthcoming in a case of mail theft: the Sheriff’s Office in Dahlonega says thousands of pieces of stolen mail have been recovered, mail from five counties in northeast Georgia.
