There is a wind advisory for Athens and northeast Georgia, in effect through 8 o’clock tonight, with gusts of up to 40 miles per hour anticipated. It’s the weather system that is impacting the coasts of Georgia and South Carolina, with the likelihood of storm surges as Category One Hurricane Ian blows past.

A Wind Advisory is in effect through 8 PM for areas along and south of I-85 as a result of strong northeast winds ahead of Tropical Storm Ian. Northeast winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 40 mph are expected. Locally higher gusts over 40 mph will also be possible. These wind gusts could bring down some trees and tree limbs, and a few power outages may result.
Due to the strong northeast winds and dry fuels fire danger concerns will span areawide this afternoon.

The remnants of Tropical Storm Ian will bring gusty winds and locally heavy rainfall to portions of north and central Georgia through Saturday.
