UNG organizes Relay for Life in fight against cancer

The University of North Georgia’s Relay for Life team will host the Heroes Against Cancer 5K and one-mile fun run March 2 to raise funds for its participation in the 2024 Relay for Life of Hall County.

The fun run starts at 8 a.m. at UNG’s Gainesville Campus, followed by the 5K at 8:30 a.m.

“The goal is to symbolize the collective strength needed to fight against cancer,” Kevin Young, staff therapist in Student Counseling and co-vice chair of Gainesville Staff Council, said. “Proceeds from this event will be dedicated to the American Cancer Society and East Georgia Cancer Coalition for cancer research, treatment, awareness initiatives, and making a powerful impact in the battle against cancer.”

Participants can register online for the race, and registration is $35 per person for the 5K and $15 for the one-mile fun run. Participants should register by Feb. 15 to be guaranteed a T-shirt.

Runners should dress as their favorite superhero or book, TV, movie, or comic book character.

The UNG Staff Council leads the university’s Relay for Life team, which has a goal of raising $10,000 this year for the Relay for Life of Hall County event, scheduled from 6-10 p.m. April 19 at UNG’s Gainesville Campus.
