ATHENS, Ga. — The legendary marching band that sets the soundtrack for Georgia football games is coordinating logistics to get hundreds of instruments and band members to the west coast.
It was all hands on deck in Athens on Wednesday as band members helped to load trucks bound for the west coast with most of their 350 instruments.
“They should be there by our first rehearsal on Sunday morning at West LA College,” said band director Dr. Brett Bawcum. “If it’s a wind instrument that’s smaller than a tuba, it’s going with us on the plane.”
The more than 460 people that make up the iconic Redcoat Band will leave on Saturday.
“I am over the moon excited,” band captain and drum major Sarah Secrist told WSB’s Jonathan O’Brien. “There’s a lot on the line, and as excited as I am and how grateful I am, I, of course, want us to win,” Secrist said.
Once the band arrives in Los Angeles, they will have one practice and pep rally on Sunday before the big game on Monday.
“I am confident that they will put on a fantastic show out west,” Bawcum said.
