UGA student arrests headline police blotter

Two University of Georgia students are facing burglary charges, accused of breaking into student apartments: Ethan Johnson is 19 years old; Lucy Arnsten is 18. They’re charged in break-ins at Payne Hall, Reed Hall, and UGA’s East Campus Village (pictured above).

Methamphetamine, marijuana, and stolen items are confiscated; a half-dozen people are arrested after Jackson County Sheriff’s deputies serve search warrants on a home off Georgia Highway 53 in Braselton: the suspects—three men and three women from Braselton, Nicholson, and Commerce—were booked into the Jackson County jail.

There is word from Gainesville that two Hall County Sheriff’s deputies have been demoted after a fight in a restaurant, a brawl earlier this month in Columbus.

Investigators in the State Fire Marshal’s Office now say a fire that burned earlier this week in Habersham County was intentionally set: the blaze caused damage to a hardware store on Highway 115 in Clarkesville.
