$50 million in funding for a medical college for the University of Georgia is in the budget approved by both the state House and Senate: lawmakers are in committee work sessions today, reconvening tomorrow for legislative crossover day, the final day for bills to move from House to Senate or vice versa.

Governor Brian Kemp called for the UGA Medical College funding in his budget address to lawmakers in January.

From the Georgia News Network…

The chambers backed majority of the spending increases Governor Brian Kemp proposed in January in a record midyear budget. The allotments include major renovations on Capitol Hill, a new medical school at the University of Georgia, roadwork, financial support for rural airports, local water and sewer projects, and rural economic development programs.

The AJC reports additional funds were allocated for a new dental school at Georgia Southern University, renovations at the Atlanta Farmers Market, preparations for Atlanta to host the 2026 FIFA World Cup and 2025 College Football Playoff National Championship events in Atlanta, and a new state-of-the-art prison in Washington County as well.
