UGA dedicates new Poultry Science Building

Today is a dedication day at UGA, as the University of Georgia cuts the ribbon on its newly constructed Poultry Science Building. The ceremony is set for 2 o’clock this afternoon at the building on Cedar Street in Athens.

From the UGA website…

The University of Georgia College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences is building a new Poultry Science Building that will better equip our faculty and students, the Georgia communities we support, and the nation’s poultry industry for the challenges and opportunities of the future.

The poultry industry represents more than 25% of the agricultural income in Georgia.

The poultry industry contributes an annual $21.5 billion to the state economy and generates an annual $2.1 billion in federal tax revenue and another $1.3 billion in state tax revenue.

We need a new home to better recruit and develop the next generation of great poultry leaders. The capacity of our current facility, built in 1959, no longer allows for the innovative research needed to solve current problems or discover the great possibilities of tomorrow.

We have drawn up plans to construct a 70,000+ square foot, state-of-the-art facility, but we need your support. By backing this project, you claim a stake in every brilliant professor drawn to pursue their work in the UGA Department of Poultry Science — in every trailblazing student and in every research breakthrough that creates new businesses, generates new jobs and makes people healthier.

From research in genetics to embryology, nutrition to agribusiness, your support ensures the long-term sustainability of poultry as a food source and further showcases Georgia as the nation’s leader in poultry science.
