Extradition for suspect in toddler death, no bond for accused Baker killer

Dakious Echols (L) and Kyron Zarco (R)

18 year-old Dakious Echols was, at last report, still in New York and awaiting extradition to Athens: Echols was arrested last week in Brooklyn. He’s the fourth suspect to be charged in the March 8 shooting death of 3 year-old Kyron Zarco, who was killed in a mobile home on Spring Valley Road. Shortly after the shooting, Athens-Clarke County Police arrested 17 year-old Julian Cubillos and 16 year-old Jayden Brown. 22 year-old Desmontrez Mathis was arrested earlier this month. All four suspects face murder, assault, and gang charges.

A Clarke County judge has denied bond for Edrick Faust, who was arrested last week and charged in the murder of Tara Baker. It’s a case that had gone unsolved since the 23 year-old UGA law student was killed and her east Athens apartment set on fire in 2001. Faust is being held in the Athens-Clarke County jail.
