Special elections set in Watkinsville

Three days of candidate qualifying came to a close Wednesday in Watkinsville, and there will be special elections on June 15: acting Mayor Brian Brodrick will face Oconee County attorney Peter Steckel in the race to fill the unexpired term of former Mayor Bob Smith.

The election to fill Brodrick’s Post 1 seat on the Watkinsville City Council will pit Chuck Garrett against Carolyn Maultsby.

There will be a Democratic primary in the race to be Attorney General in Georgia: Atlanta state Senator Jen Jordan and former anti-gang prosecutor Charlie Bailey both say they will run for the job now held by Republican Chris Carr.

Carr is said to be considering a possible Republican run for US Senate, looking for the seat now held by Democrat Raphael Warnock.
