Smart releases statement on arrested Bulldog lineman

A Georgia Bulldog football player arrested on family violence charges had bond set at $1,500: Devonte Wyatt is a defensive lineman from Decatur. Other charges against Wyatt include criminal trespass and damage to property. The arrest dates back to allegations from an incident late last week at UGA’s McWhorter Hall.

From WSB TV…

Wyatt, a rising senior in 2020, played in 13 of 14 games for the Dawgs last season and 12 games the season in 2018.

Head coach Kirby Smart issued a statement on the arrest Wednesday.

“I’m disappointed in the misconduct that is outlined in the incident report. This is not indicative of the behavior we expect from our student-athletes who represent the University of Georgia and our football program. We will address it internally in the appropriate way.”

The UGA police department responded to a call at McWhorter Hall Friday night after reports of a fight between a man and woman. The report stated Wyatt was identified as one of the people involved.

Wyatt is accused of kicking the woman’s door “multiple times from the hallway, damaging the door and forcing it open," according to the report.
