Several metro Atlanta warming centers open ahead of frigid weather

ATLANTA — As temperatures continue declining ahead of a winter storm watch, several warming centers across metro Atlanta are opening for those in need to keep warm.

Here is a list of warming centers opening:

City of Atlanta:

• The City of Atlanta will open warming centers from Jan. 19 starting at 8 p.m. through Wednesday Jan. 22 at 3 p.m. The first warming center will open at Central Park Recreation Center at 400 Merritts Ave. NE.
• The second warming center will open at Selena S. Butler Park at 98 WM Holmes Borders Dr SE. for women and children only.
• Old Adamsville Recreation Center at 3404 Delmar Ln NW, Atlanta, GA 30331 will continue to serve as an overflow location.

The city will provide transportation to the warming centers beginning at 8 p.m. from the Gateway Center with return transportation provided by Fulton County from the Gateway Center upon deactivation.

Clayton County:

• Officials in Clayton County will open warming centers for the public until Thursday, Jan. 23.
• Anointed Vision of Hope Shelter located at 8049 Webb Rd. in Riverdale, and the Clayton County Police Headquarters center located at 7911 North McDonough St. in Jonesboro.

Gwinnett County:

City officials say they will open their five warming stations Sunday through Tuesday from 6 p.m. to 7 a.m. Those who visit the stations will be able to warm up, eat a meal, and get some rest.

DeKalb County:

DeKalb County will open the following four warming centers for residents 24 hours a day beginning 8 p.m. Sunday, Jan 19, until further notice, the county says.

• Frontline Response International, 2585 Gresham Rd.
• Tobie Grant Recreation Center, 593 Parkdale Dr.
• Mason Mill Recreation Center, 1340 McConnell Dr.
• Exchange Recreation Center, 2771 Columbia Dr.
• Avondale Fire Station No. 3, 100 N. Clarendon Ave.

During warming center activation, transportation pickups will be available to Frontline International according to the following schedule. Please note additional transportation pickup times and dates may be added:

• Chamblee Library, 4115 Clairmont Rd., Chamblee, 5:40 p.m. to 6 p.m.
• North DeKalb Senior/Community Center, 3393 Malone Dr., Chamblee, 7:30 p.m. to 7:50 p.m.
• Mason Mill Recreation Center, 1340 McConnell Dr., 9 p.m. to 9:20 p.m.
• Avondale Fire Station No. 3, 100 N. Clarendon Ave., Avondale Estates; Pick up No. 1, 6:20 p.m. to 6:40 p.m. and Pick up No. 2, 7:30 p.m. to 7:50 p.m.
• 2027 Candler Rd., Decatur, 8:40 p.m. to 9 p.m.
• D&K Suit City Parking Lot: 5239 Memorial Dr., Stone Mountain, 6:20 p.m. to 6:40 p.m.

Henry County:

Henry County Warming Center Open

• Locust Grove Recreation Center; 10 Cleveland Street, Locust Grove, GA 30248

Hall County:

Hall County community centers are open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays and from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday. Hall County community centers include:

Good News at Noon Gainesville facility at 881 Dorsey St. is available to the public from 5 p.m. to 8 a.m., as space allows for overnight shelter.
