School news: Commerce names new Supt, Burgess won't seek reelection to Oconee Co BOE

Tim Burgess says he will not be a candidate for reelection to his Post 3 seat on the Oconee County School Board: Burgess joined the School Board in Watkinsville a decade ago after retiring from a career as an administrator at the University of Georgia. Andy Pippin is the first candidate to announce a run to fill Burgess’ seat on the Oconee County School Board.

The Chair of the Oconee County Industrial Development Authority kicks off his campaign for the Post 5 seat on the Oconee County School Board, running to replace Michael Ransom, who is campaigning to be the next Chair of the School Board in Watkinsville. Brock Toole, now a business owner in Wire Park in Watkinsville, has previously worked as an Assistant Superintendent for Oconee County Schools.

The School Board in Commerce names a replacement for retiring School Superintendent Joy Tolbert, who will leave her job at the end of the school year: Billy Kirk has been named the sole finalist for the post. Kirk comes to Commerce from Dahlonega, where he has worked for the past seven years as an assistant principal at Lumpkin County High School.
