Scam alert: Jackson Co Sheriff issues advisory

Jackson County Sheriff Janis Mangum is warning about scam artists: she says they’re making the rounds in Jackson County, taking money up front for work that is not done or not done well, then sending more invoices at inflated prices.

From the Jackson Co Sheriff’s Office Facebook page...

Two more scam reports sent to me.

One report states the caller told them that they were a member of the Jackson County Courthouse and that they had missed Jury Duty and a summons had been issued for their arrest. They were then told to purchase a Green Dot money card for $500.00 and pay by phone. They then ask for an additional $500 card, at which time they became suspicious.

First of all, we don’t call people for missing jury duty and we sure don’t issue summons for arrest for people for missing jury duty.

When someone asked you for any kind of money card, that should throw up a red flag. DON’T LISTEN TO THEM!

Second report:

Received a call from a Sgt. Taylor from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, advising they were mailed a notice and missed jury duty. They were then told Judge Ott had issued a bench warrant for their arrest.

There is no Sgt. Taylor employed with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office and there is no Judge Ott in Jackson County. This person was able to get an attorney to get on the phone with them and they hung up.

When you get these calls, hang up and call the Sheriff’s Office to verify what you are being told.

Best thing you can do is HANG UP ON THEM!

Contact me if need be and I will reassure you these are scams.
