Police update latest Bethel Homes shooting

Athens-Clarke County Police investigate a shooting at Bethel Homes: two people were wounded at the apartment complex on Hickman Drive in Athens. The shooting victims were taken to a local hospital with what were said to be non life-threatening injuries.

On June 14th, 2024, at approximately 1:49 PM, Athens-Clarke County Police responded to the 100 block of Hickman Drive regarding a fight and a shooting. Responding officers located a female with several abrasions on her head. The initial investigation determined she was struck multiple times to the head with a pistol. During this time, officers in the complex located Tysean Davis with a gunshot wound.

The initial investigation determined he was the subject who struck the female. Tysean Davis, 27, Athens, was charged with Aggravated Assault x2, Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime, and Battery. He was treated at a local hospital and transported to the Clarke County Jail.

Witnesses advised a third person, Byron Smith, shot Davis and fled the scene. Byron Smith, 28, Athens, has been charged with Aggravated Assault and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime. He has not been taken into custody at the time of this press release.
