PARMC named among nation's best maternity hospitals

It is national recognition for the hospital on Prince Avenue: Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center is named to Newsweek magazine’s list of best maternity hospitals.

From Piedmont Athens Regional…

Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center and Piedmont Atlanta Hospital are two of America’s Best Maternity Hospitals, according to Newsweek. Hospitals on the list received either four or five ribbons to further distinguish quality of care; Piedmont Athens and Piedmont Atlanta are the only two hospitals in Georgia to earn five ribbons.

“The Piedmont Athens Regional Women’s Services teams consistently provide safe, personalized care to women and their families before, during, and after childbirth, and I’m so pleased they have been recognized for their hard work and dedication,” said Michael Burnett, chief executive officer of Piedmont Athens Regional. “I hope this designation will highlight Piedmont Athens Regional as the destination for exceptional maternity care in northeast Georgia.”

The third annual list by Newsweek of hospitals providing the highest quality maternity care features 404 facilities across the United States. The list is based on a nationwide online survey of hospital managers and medical professionals, publicly available data from hospital surveys regarding patient experience, as well as data on relevant quality metrics (such as the number of elective cesarean deliveries) from sources including The Joint Commission, a nonprofit hospital accreditation organization, and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

Piedmont Athens Regional also ranked as a High Performing Hospital for Maternity Care (Uncomplicated Pregnancy) on a U.S. News & World Report list this year.

Piedmont Athens Regional has an OB Emergency Department reserved specifically for pregnant women experiencing a medical emergency, as well as a Level III NICU for babies who need additional medical intervention after birth. The Women’s Services team delivers approximately 3,000 babies each year.
