ROCKDALE COUNTY, GA — There are new developments after the chemical fire in Rockdale County broke out at a Bio-Lab chemical plant last fall.
Federal safety officials at the US Department of Labor are citing Bio-Lab over $61,000 for six violations involving the improper storage of chemicals.
The OSHA findings say these actions contributed to the September fire that produced a massive plume of toxic smoke that lingered across the metro area for days, and resulted in shelter-in-place orders for nearby residents like Alex Boy, who now wants the company gone.
Bio-Lab has 15 days to respond to the citations.
In a statement, the company says it remains committed to working collaboratively with OSHA, but did not say whether it would contest the findings.
