Schools buses are rolling and school bells are ringing today in Elberton: this is the first day of the new school year in Elbert County. This is also opening day for schools in Banks, Barrow, and Lumpkin counties.
There is one more planning day for teachers in the Clarke County School District: the new school year in Athens begins tomorrow, as it does for students and teachers in schools in the Oconee County School District.
The Clarke County School District says student registration for the 2023-24 school year is temporarily being held in the recreation center next to the main District Office building on Prince Avenue in Athens.
