Oconee County's two high schools are ranked in the top four percent of high schools nationwide: the recognition comes in the latest ratings from US News and World Report magazine. Oconee County was the only system in northeast Georgia to have any high schools ranked in the top five percent.

"Congratulations once again to North Oconee High School and Oconee County High School for their consistent rankings as top high schools not only in Georgia, but in the nation as well," said Superintendent Jason Branch. "We are indeed blessed in Oconee County to have the best teachers, parents, and students in the state and I applaud their continued demonstrations of sustained excellence."

To create the rankings, U.S. News and World Report started with more than 24,000 public high schools across the nation. Both high schools were the only two in Northeast Georgia ranked in the top 30 for the state.

The rankings were based on college readiness, math and reading proficiency, math and reading performance, underserved student performance, college curriculum breadth, and graduation rate.
