Oconee Dems meet, Oconee Republicans recap state convention

ga gop convention

Oconee County Democrats meet this evening: they will hear from Atlanta Journal Constitution political writer Greg Bluestein in their 6:30 session at Oconee County Chamber of Commerce headquarters in Watkinsville.

Oconee County’s Republican Party Chair, just back from the Georgia GOP Convention in Columbus, provides an update on two-day gathering that featured a keynote address from former President Donald Trump.

From Kathy Hurley, Oconee Co GOP…

Things were rocking in Columbus for the GA GOP State Convention where over 2300 delegates/alternates met to conduct party business.  There were some very dynamic speakers in addition to the business of the convention which suffered some significant delays due to Secret Service security screening for our keynote speaker, former President Donald Trump.  Other speakers were former Arkansas Governor, and now presidential candidate, Asa Hutchinson and presidential candidates, Vivek Ramaswamy.  Kari Lake, former candidate for Arizona Governor, was also a featured speaker.   All of the Georgia Republican Congressional Delegation spoke, either in person or via video.

Even with the time delays we did elect a new state Executive Committee:

John McKoon

Chairman

Brian Pritchard

1st Vice Chairman

David Cross

2nd Vice Chairman

Laurie McClain

Treasurer

Jenny Eckman

Assistant Treasurer

Caroline Jeffords

Secretary

Suzi Voyles

Assistant Secretary

Salleigh Grubbs

Over 80K Caucus Chair

Kathy Hurley

Under 80K Caucus Chair

The new officer group, along with the 14 District Chairs, will hold their first meeting this Sunday afternoon.

A very special thank you to those members of our group that served as Delegates to the convention:

Don McGeary

Shami Jones

Jordan Chinouth

Lyndel Hurley

Steven Strickland

Tommy Malcom

Pam Hendrix

Laura McHugh

Rachel Guthrie

Victoria Cruz

Johnny Prescott

Jeff Hood

Mike Frawley

Kathy Hurley

The Saturday convention session ran so long that a voting quorum was lost prior to Resolutions and Rules being taken up. Those will be reviewed and acted on by the State Committee in the coming months.
