US News and World Report magazine, in its latest rankings of high schools, places Oconee County and North Oconee high schools in its top five percent.

Both North Oconee High School and Oconee County High School have been named in the top 5% of high schools nationwide by U.S. News and World Report. Oconee County was the only system in Northeast Georgia to have any schools rank in the top 5%.
“Both North Oconee High School and Oconee County High Schools have long-standing traditions of academic excellence, and I commend them for once again being recognized among the top high schools in the nation,” said Superintendent Jason L. Branch. “The sustained excellence achieved by both schools is a direct result of Oconee County’s world-class teachers and leaders, our hard-working students, and the supportive parents we have in this wonderful community.”
North Oconee High School was ranked in the top 3% nationwide and the top 4% in Georgia. Oconee County High School was ranked in the top 5% nationwide and the top 6% in Georgia. NOHS and OCHS were the two highest-ranked high schools in Northeast Georgia.
To create the rankings, U.S. News and World Report started with approximately 24,000 public high schools across the nation and then ranked them according to six indicators. The six rating indicators are: college readiness (30%), math and reading proficiency (20%), math and reading performance (20%), college curriculum breadth (10%), and underserved student performance (10%), and graduation rate (10%).
