Oconee Co school choice window opens

The Oconee County School District says its school choice window is open. The deadline for Oconee County parents to apply for a transfer for their student children is January 21.

Oconee County Schools is pleased to announce that the window for school choice for the 2022-23 school year is now open.

If you are interested in submitting a transfer request, you may pick up an application at the Office of Student Services or download the “Application for Student Transfer under Public School Choice” from the OCS website at www.oconeeschools.org/transferapp. The deadline for submitting the application to the Office of Student Services is 4 p.m. on Fri., Jan. 21, 2022.

Schools with Available Space for the 2022-23 School Year:

• Oconee County Primary
• Colham Ferry Elementary
• Dove Creek Elementary
• High Shoals Elementary
• Oconee County Elementary
• Malcom Bridge Elementary
• Rocky Branch Elementary
• Oconee County Middle
• Oconee County High

* All high school students electing to transfer under Public School Choice shall be subject to GHSA eligibility requirements.

Once a student transfer has been approved, that transfer is good until the student completes all grades at that school. A transferring student who completes all grades at the receiving school does not automatically receive enrollment preferences to the feeder school. At the end of each level of education (primary, elementary, and middle) the parent has to apply for the transfer if it is different from the zoned school. If there is space available, then the application can be considered. If there is no available space, then the student must attend the school for which they are zoned.

Notification of the transfer request approval or denial will be mailed to each applicant on or before Fri., Jan. 28, 2022. If you have any questions with regards to school choice, please contact the Office of Student Services at 706.769.5130, ext. 1208.
