NE Ga police blotter: sentencing in Athens bomb threat, deadly shooting in Hall Co

Jessica Higginbotham gets an 18-month prison sentence: the 35 year-old Elberton woman who worked as a security guard at Democratic Party offices in Athens made a bomb threat against the local Party headquarters back in December, just before a scheduled appearance from Georgia Senators Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock. Higginbotham was sentenced this week in federal court in Athens.

We have this morning the name of the teenager who was killed in a Wednesday shooting in Hall County. Paul Statham Jr was 17 years old, from Gainesville. The man who allegedly shot Statham was himself shot and wounded: 31 year-old Tyrenskie Odem was hospitalized. A Hall County Sheriff’s Office investigation is ongoing.

A police chase in Hall County ends with the arrest of a man from Jackson County: Oakwood Police say 43 year-old Michael Parker damaged one police car and four other vehicles while driving a stolen car. He was eventually captured on I-985 near Flowery Branch.

The body of a Buford man who drowned in Lake Lanier was recovered Thursday, five days after he went into the Lake and never resurfaced. Leonardo Martinez was 27 years old.

The Habersham County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a drive-by shooting in Cornelia. There were no injuries. Deputies were, at last report, looking for a person of interest in the case.
