NE Ga police blotter: lumber yard fire in Athens, mail theft arrests in Clarke and Jackson counties

A Sunday night fire closed a stretch of Tallassee Road: Hogan Lumber was the scene of the fire that kept Athens-Clarke County firefighters busy for several hours overnight. It is the second time in a week the lumber yard on Athens’ west side has had a big fire.

The Athens-Clarke County Police Department reports the arrest of a mail theft suspect: Joseph Webb was booked into the Athens-Clarke County jail. Police say the 21 year-old Bogart man stole from mailboxes in Bogart, taking letters and packages over the past several months.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office has released the name of the suspect arrested and charged as a porch pirate: James Ford is accused of stealing packages from homes in Hoschton.

An Elbert County woman is booked into the Elbert County jail on automobile theft charges: 59 year-old Kelly Kline is accused of stealing a truck from an apartment complex.

There are vehicular homicide charges for a taxi driver in Gainesville: 67 year-old Jose Estala has been arrested and charged in the accident that claimed the life of a passenger from Braselton, a wreck that happened on November 30. Silvia Morales, killed in the crash, was 69 years old.

The Georgia State Patrol is investigating a Sunday night auto accident in Hall County: one person was reported killed in the crash on Cash Road in Hall County.
