NE Ga police blotter: arrest in Athens shooting, deadly fire in Elbert Co

Athens-Clarke County Police report the arrest of an 18 year-old charged in this week’s shooting of a 13 year-old, a shooting that happened Monday morning on Chalfont Drive in Athens. Police say Tonio Jackson was arrested shortly after the shooting, chased by an officer who says he tried to tase the teenager before finally catching him and taking him into custody. Charges against Jackson include aggravated assault for the shooting and also hit-and-run. He’s accused of hitting the 13 year-old victim with his jeep and then leaving the scene.

Along with a DUI charge, a woman from Royston is charged with throwing rocks at cars in Madison County: 36 year-old Cathleen Green was arrested in a church parking lot on Rock Quarry Road in Danielsville.

The state Fire Marshal’s Office says last weekend’s house fire in Elbert County, a blaze that killed three people, was accidental. Investigators say the deadly fire was likely sparked by a clothes dryer. Elbert County Emergency Services battled the blaze and found all three victims trapped in the home.

Police in Gainesville say they’ve made a third arrest in last weekend’s shooting of a 16 year-old: a 15 year-old believed to have been the shooter is detained along with two other teenagers. The juvenile who was wounded was take to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville with what were described as non-life threatening injuries.

The Sheriff’s Office in Ellijay says a 66 year-old man from Blue Ridge is facing a long list of drug charges: the Gilmer County Sheriff’s Office says the arrest of Raymond Akins caps a year-long investigation and yielded large amounts of marijuana and methamphetamine, along with cash and firearms.
