NE Ga police blotter: another shooting in downtown Athens, deadly gunfire in Hartwell

Athens-Clarke County Police are investigating another shooting in downtown Athens: police say a 21 year-old man from Bowman not injured when another man fired a shot at him. It happened during a fight near Clayton and Jackson Streets. The police investigation is ongoing. It’s the second shooting on Clayton Street in the past two weeks: a 17 year-old was wounded and another 17 year-old arrested back on August 26.

Police in Toccoa were, at last report, trying to track down a man on a motorcycle, a suspect in the armed robbery of a package store in Stephens County.

The GBI and the Hart County Sheriff’s Office are investigating a deadly shooting in Hartwell: two people were killed and two injured. It happened over the holiday weekend in the parking lot of a nightclub on Highway 29 between Hartwell and Anderson. The victims have been identified as Robert Thornton, 39 years old from Hartwell, and 25 year-old Joseph Johnson of Canon. There was no word on suspects or motive.

A Labor Day weekend accident claimed the life of an eighth grader at Hart County Middle School: David Fuller’s funeral will be held Friday in Tennessee. He was killed in a crash while riding a dirt bike. David Fuller was 14 years old.
