National Weather Service confirms Tuesday tornado touchdowns

The National Weather Service says yes, those were tornadoes that caused damage and destruction in Madison and Banks counties.

The Weather Service in Peachtree City says four twisters hit the state as the remnants of Tropical Storm Fred rumbled through. The tornado in Madison County hit the Ila area, while homes were damaged and destroyed along Hawkins and Bennett roads in Banks County. The Weather Service says there was also a tornado touchdown in Greene County, and another in southwest Georgia’s Sumter County.

What was thought to have been a tornado in Oconee County now appears to have been a strong straight-line wind that caused some property damage along Astondale Road near Bishop.
