The founder of Mellow Mushroom, a Newnan native, died at the end of April. He was 69.

According to an obituary, Michael “Mike” Evans Reeves of Cumming, founded several companies, including the popular pizza restaurant. There are 22 locations in just Atlanta, according to the company’s website.

In addition to Mellow Mushroom, Reeves founded the Excelsior Mill and the Peanut Palace.

Alongside his brother Rocky, Reeves started the Cotton Club, The Point, and with business partner Dan Nolan, Reeves founded Smith’s Old Bar and Fox Brothers B.B.Q.

Reeves’ obituary said he was a Campbell High School graduate. After his graduation in 1971, he attended West Georgia University. Reeves is described as “a force of nature” and as having “soul in the most essential ways,” charitable, and loving.

Throughout his life, he gave to several charities including Toys 4 Tots, the Atlanta Food Bank, and Odyssey Villas.

A service honoring Reeves is planned for May 13 at Mt. Vernon Presbyterian Church in Sandy Springs. Instead of flowers, donations to a charity are encouraged in Reeves’ memory.
