This is festival weekend in Winterville: the annual Winterville Marigold Festival is set for Saturday, with activities underway at 9 tomorrow morning in and around Pittard Park.

The Winterville Marigold Festival began over 30 years ago as a way to beautify and renovate the town and for the purpose of promoting friendship. Each year the festival features juried arts and crafts, barbecue and other food vendors, dancing and entertainment in the park, the Marigold 10K, parade, and other events.

Tomorrow is a volunteer work day in Memorial Park: they'll gather at 9 o'clock Saturday morning for about three hours of work on Birchmore Trail.
Organizers call it the Annual Family Picnic and Strawberry Day: the second annual is set for Saturday at the Athens Farmers Market in Bishop Park. It's underway at 10 tomorrow morning and lasts until noon.
