Man convicted in Oconee Co murder wants new trial

Convicted killer Daniel Anglin is looking for a new trial: Anglin was found guilty in 2017 for a 2016 murder in Oconee County. His brother-in-law Chad Ruark was shot and killed on Carson Graves Road in Oconee County. 

A man wanted for a murder in Virginia is captured in Carnesville: Franklin County Sheriff's Office investigators say Justin Johnson was arrested while walking along Interstate 85.

“Sunday afternoon around 4:00pm, the Georgia State Patrol and Franklin County Sheriff’s deputies were notified that a white 2019 Nissan Altima had been stolen in Virginia.

“OnStar called and notified us that the vehicle was on I-85 Southbound between Exit 164 & Exit 173. The vehicle ran off the ramp at exit 164, the driver (a black male) was seen by citizens passing by. They told 911 dispatchers that the driver ran from the vehicle crossing the fence into a field North of the interstate. Deputies also saw someone crossing the large field and requested for K-9 units to assist, and Sheriff’s deputies notified residents in the Hwy 320 area of their search.

“According to Virginia authorities the man was wanted for murder and this was told to the citizens. Franklin County deputies assisting with the perimeter observed a male matching the description of the suspect, who was wearing a dark hoodie, walking on the side of the Interstate near the 165 mile marker Southbound.

“He was detained and interviewed by investigators. The investigator also talked to the Virginia authorities. After being fingerprinted, GCIC identified the black make as Justin Demond Johnson, age 22 from Atlanta as the one that was driving the car that was stolen out of Virginia.”

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office says upwards of two dozen suspects were booked into the Lincoln County jail on charges that include cockfighting. Deputies say there were around 500 chickens on the property outside Lincolnton.
