Loran Smith is hospitalized: the long-time member of the Georgia Bulldog football broadcasting crew was hit by two Bulldog players while standing on the sidelines of a Bulldog football practice earlier this week. UGA says Smith suffered injuries to his hip and elbow. He's expected to be released from the hospital today or tomorrow.

From UGA Sports Information Director Claude Felton…

Loran Smith, the University of Georgia Athletic Association’s most versatile and long time staff member, was hospitalized Monday evening after suffering a hip and elbow injury while attending a Bulldog practice session.

After running out of bounds on a special teams play, two Bulldog players collided with Smith.

Smith underwent hip surgery on Tuesday at Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center. He is expected to be released from the hospital Wednesday or Thursday and a full recovery is expected.
