Local government notes: public input sessions in Watkinsville, DFACS search in Danielsville

The Watkinsville City Council schedules public input sessions on plans for the Thomas Farms property: the meetings are set for October 4 and 11 at Watkinsville City Hall and will also be available for virtual viewing and participation. Watkinsville Mayor Brian Brodrick announced earlier this year the city’s plans to purchase the 100 acres of farmland off Simonton Bridge Road, with plans to turn it into a conservation greenspace and recreational area for the city.

The Watkinsville City Council is meeting in a special called session that is set for 6:30 this evening at City Hall.

Madison County is searching for a new DFACS director: Kristy Daniels has resigned after ten years in Danielsville. Daniels tells Madison County Commissioners she’s taking a new job in the state Department of Family and Childrens Services.

Madison County is getting a new County Extension Service Coordinator: Travis Tankersley signed on with the office in Danielsville earlier this year; he’ll begin his new job next week.

The three remaining members of the City Council in Hoschton now say they will meet tomorrow to choose a replacement for the recently departed Hoschton City Council member Debbie Martin, who resigned from the Council earlier this month to make a run for the mayor’s office.

The Board of Elections in Hartwell says Hart County voters will be getting new precinct cards over the next couple of weeks. Many Hart County voters will see new voting precincts on those cards, the result of redistricting that took place earlier this year.
