Hall Co school bus drivers can earn more money than teachers

Hall County Schools are making a generous offer to attract bus drivers and bus monitors for the coming school year.

The district is offering drivers $26+ per hour. New drivers could also receive a $1,000 bonus. The district is offering full-time benefits, paid sick leave, holidays and weekends off, and summers off with a paycheck.

The $26+ hourly rate is higher than what many teachers in the district earn per hour, according to the district’s teacher salary schedule. Teacher salaries can range from $42,000 to as high as $88,000. A teacher would need to earn at least $54,080 annually to match the hourly rate for bus drivers.

Teachers still make more money over the course of the year since school bus drivers typically only work 4 hours per day, according to Hall County Schools Director of Communications Stan Lewis.

The district says people interested in becoming a bus driver or bus monitor can call 770-287-0942 and dial extension 10238 or ask for the Training Center.

The district had 26,843 students enrolled in 2021, according to the district’s website.

Hall County Schools employ 3,439 people, including 2,184 certified teachers.
