GAINESVILLE, Ga. — Following other events around the country this summer, local supporters of President Donald Trump held their own boat parade Sunday.
Organizers said the “Great American Boat Parade” started at Lake Lanier in Gainesville around 11 a.m and continued throughout the afternoon.
A Channel 2 Action News photographer shot video of the parade as dozens of boats moved down and across the lake.
Two other parades were held last weekend on Allatoona Lake in Bartow County and Clarks Hill Lake near Augusta.
The Lake Lanier event charged $10.00 entry fee while offering free admission for active military, police, fire and military veterans. The event page said all net proceeds will be donated to Tunnel 2 Towers and other local charities. The Facebook event showed 2,600 people were interested with 1,700 people marked as attending.
Sunday’s event happens a day after one Trump boat parade in Texas went awry when law enforcement officials reported “many boats in distress,” according to reports. There were no injuries, according to sheriff’s deputies.
Lake Lanier event organizers said there will be a route for boaters to follow along with safety rules and regulations.
“We have spent the past weeks organizing this great event down to the last detail. We have our staging area, route and most importantly our rules and regulations for safety. We have planned a route free if pinch points and obstacles on Lanier so every boat in the parade will be free from hazards. We have organized a grid that places vessels of the same length together for the upmost of safety,” the event page said.
