ROCKDALE COUNTY, GA — A federal grant is helping one Atlanta university study the impacts of the BioLab chemical fire.
The National Science Foundation has awarded Georgia Tech’s School of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences with an $86,000 grant to fund the research.
Researchers there are working to identify every chemical compound released into the air as a result of that fire in Conyers in late September. They also hope to figure out the level of exposure for nearby residents.
The announcement comes as BioLab faces a series of lawsuits. The plume stuck around in the area for about two and a half weeks.
