Government notes: A-CC Commission debates short term rentals, Oconee Commissioners hold town hall

Athens-Clarke County Commissioners met last night at City Hall, setting the agenda for their February voting session. Among the items on the agenda: the creation of new land use regulations for short term vacation rentals in Athens. Commissioners are also talking about establishing a Short Term Rental Coordinator position for the Athens-Clarke County government. It is an issue that could be up for a vote on February 6.

City Hall schedules a January 25 community education session, focusing on the Athens-Clarke County non-discrimination ordinance: the event hosted by the Athens-Clarke County Human Relations Commission will take place at the library on Baxter Street.

Oconee County Commissioners host tonight their first town hall of the new year. It is set for 6 o’clock this evening at the Administrative Building on Macon Highway. Information on upcoming votes on Homestead Exemption referendums are on the agenda.

The Madison County School Board has signed off on a calendar for the 2024-25 school year: Madison County teachers will report to classrooms on July 29 for a school year that will begin for students in and around Danielsville on August 2.
