The University of Georgia and the 25 other schools in the University System of Georgia will have classes online only for the rest of spring semester, and Governor Brian Kemp has ordered all public schools in Georgia to close through at least the end of the month.
Residence halls at the University of Georgia are open for one more day today, from 8 til noon to allow students to retrieve belongings. UGA students went out on a spring break earlier this month and were told not to return to campus as coronavirus concerns escalated. Classes at the University are suspended for the rest of the month. Athens Technical College and the University of North Georgia have also halted their classes.
With Clarke County Schools closed through at least Friday, the School District announces plans to make free meal service available for students starting today. The School District’s Central Office says the meals will be available for pickup between 8 and 10 o’clock this morning at Hilsman Middle School and Oglethorpe Avenue Elementary School.
There are now three confirmed coronavirus cases in Athens and 121 statewide.
