Athens Mayor Kelly Girtz will headline a news conference later today in Lawrenceville, laying out plans for a lawsuit to challenge the new Athens-Clarke County Commission district map that was drawn by local Republican lawmakers and signed into law by Governor Brian Kemp.
Commissioners Melissa Link, Tim Denson, and Russell Edwards will be unable to run for reelection in the newly renumbered districts they currently represent.
Other candidates are stepping forward to run in the elections that are scheduled for May. Matthew Pulver and Dexter Fisher say they will run in District 5, while John Culpepper says he will be a candidate in Commission District 7.
