Georgia officials are getting ready for the possibility of snow and ice.
On Wednesday afternoon, Governor Brian Kemp declared “state offices within affected areas north of and including Columbus, Macon, and Augusta will be closed on Friday, January 10, and employees will be working remotely as they continue to serve their fellow Georgians.”
All of the prep work starts Thursday when crews with the Georgia Department of Transportation will start brining roads across metro Atlanta, particularly to the north and along Interstate 20.
Drivers are being asked to give those crews plenty of space as they work to get the roads treated.
The snow and ice could hit Friday, and if it does, Governor Kemp says avoid travel unless it is absolutely necessary.
State troopers are also expected to be on standby across the state for any winter weather-related emergencies.
