A 10 o'clock ribbon cutting ceremony will mark the official opening of a newly-widened stretch of Highway 72 in Madison and Elbert counties. The ceremony takes place in Comer. The Georgia DOT, at a cost of $51 million, widened a 9.6 mile stretch of 72, from Madison County to just east of the Broad River in Elbert County.
There is another heads-up from the Georgia DOT, with resurfacing set to start on State Route 211: the DOT says drivers can look for nighttime lane closures on a 5-mile stretch of 211 from Barrow County north of the I-85 bridge to Highway 53 in Hall County. It's a $1.7 million project that is due for completion by the end of August.
