COWETA COUNTY, Ga. — The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has released a mugshot photo of the man who is wanted for murder and for shooting a Georgia State Patrol K-9 in Coweta County on Wednesday.
Officials say a chase ended near South Highway 29 and Calico Loop near Grantville on Wednesday. The suspect, identified as 51-year-old Rockdale County man Ira Troy Williams, got out of a car and fled on foot with an AR-15 assault rifle.
According to Georgia State Patrol, a K9 officer was airlifted to the hospital after being shot.
The Coweta County Sheriff’s Office says Williams is believed to be “armed and dangerous.” The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has requested the public’s help in locating Williams.
The search on Wednesday was centered in a neighborhood with about 60 homes.
