Former Mayor calls out current Mayor, alleges conflict of interest

Bob Smith, who resigned as Mayor of Watkinsville this past March, spoke at last night’s City Council meeting in Watkinsville, calling for an audit of city finances.

Smith, a former state Representative from Oconee County, is calling out what he says is a conflict of interest for his replacement in the Mayor’s office.

Brian Brodrick serves on the Board of a bank in which the City of Watkinsville keeps its money.

Brodrick, who is being challenged by political newcomer Rebecca Billings, is running for full two-year term as Mayor in an election that takes places in 12 days; early voting for the November 2 election continues through October 29.
