The following statement is in the interest of transparency and prevention of false rumors swirling about the community.

Former Detention Officer Alexander Wymbs was arrested tonight. An incident occurred this past Friday night/ Saturday morning. The allegation was such that it may have been criminal in nature. I was advised of the allegation yesterday (Sunday). I immediately contacted the GBI and requested they investigate the incident as an independent investigative agency.

Last night their forensic unit processed the scene and their Special Agents conducted interviews today. After concluding their investigation they secured warrants for False Imprisonment, Public Indecency and Sexual Battery. Wymbs was arrested and is currently being housed at a jail in an adjoining county until bail is set.

Due to Georgia Law restricting information that would identify the location, victim or any other information that may identify the victim of a sexual based crime, no further details are able to be given on this incident. I can say it did not involve any inmate or member of the general public.

If a law enforcement agency is going to have legitimacy within their own community, they must hold their own as accountable for their actions as they do everyone else.
