Football weekend is finally here: the Georgia Bulldogs begin their quest for a third consecutive national championship with a Saturday evening home game against Tennessee-Martin. Kickoff is set for 6 o’clock in Sanford Stadium.
From UGA Archnews…
The University of Georgia Athletic Association reminds the UGA community about improvements and changes to Sanford Stadium’s South side in anticipation of this Saturday’s opening game against UT Martin.
Gillis Bridge is now a ticketed area with new gates that will be installed during home game weeks. As a result, Gillis Bridge will be closed to all vehicular and pedestrian traffic beginning at 7 p.m. on Fridays before home games and will reopen following each game.
Sanford Stadium has been undergoing a two-phase $68.5 million improvement. The completion of phase one will be unveiled this Saturday. Phase two is on pace to be completed prior to the 2024 season.
Here is a breakdown of the improvements:
- Gate 1 and Gate 9 will now be located on Gillis Bridge. A portion of the bridge on the West side will now be inside the stadium. This area will be ticketed on game days.
- Gate 9 will now have two entry points. You can enter on the bridge at the new Gate 9 plaza or at the top of the 100 level.
- There is a new connection between the South 100 concourse and the West Endzone plaza.
- Additional Grab & Go concession options are available at Gate 6 and Gate 9, and additional concessions will be available on the bridge for fans in the West Endzone as well.
- Seating alignment has been upgraded, and more seats are available for disabled fans on the 100 level South concourse.
- The concourse from Gate 6 to Gate 9 has more than doubled in width.
- New larger and more spacious restrooms are available at the Gate 9 plaza, 100 level concourse, and Gate 6 entry plaza.
- Family bathrooms have been added to the 100 level South concourse near Section 128.
- A sensory room has been added in Section 128 for fans who need a quiet space if the sights and sounds in the stadium become overwhelming.
